Great Stories Happen to Those Who Can Tell Them

Newsletter

Great stories happen to those who can tell them. ~Ira Glass

The world loves a good story. What could be better than the stories coming from children and youth from all parts of the world. Two members of Compassionate India, Anjali Sharma and Deepika Ahuja, sought to prove that stories can inspire and teach. Soon a new book, My Act of Heart, will present how children act with compassion, grace and courage when faced with what appear to be insurmountable challenges. Nearly five thousand miles away, in Australia, 50 narratives on compassion were launched by Dreaming Australia: a Continent of Compassion. This time the stories were told by adults.

The Charter for Compassion stories seem to be endless in 2021. Traveling the globe counter clockwise to Las Vegas, 1600 people experiencing homelessness found shelter, along, what Mayor Carolyn Goodman calls "the corridor of hope." Along the corridor the Compassionate Las Vegas team works with local police, food banks, shelters and with children in school garden projects. This same project, Green Our Planet, is repeated across the country and reaches 165,000 students.

How does a small staff of five people and a dozen dedicated lead volunteers figure into the equation of accomplishment in our cities? It is all about networking, connecting people from one city to another, one partner organization to another. We provide training, when necessary, offer courses on the science and responsibility of compassion, and when necessary--we take the reins to speak on behalf of the disenfranchised. Compassion isn't soft and fluff; its strength is working to heal the world.

You receive this message because you already know that compassion in action manifests itself in acts of kindness to others. Would you continue to help us on our journey of transformation in 2022? We are proud to say that we are primarily a volunteer organization that upholds the tenet of the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." We have a great deal of work to do and we need you to join us by contributing, financially or through your talents.

Things can only get better, and with your help we'll keep moving forward!

With warm regards,
