Charter for Compassion and Excellence Reporter Collaborate on a New Project
The Charter for Compassion is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the “What is the Meaning of Life” project and Nicolae Tanase, its founder, and Dr. Lesa Walker, founder of the Compassionate Austin movement. The Project is titled, “What Makes a Compassionate City?” You don’t have to be a part of a Charter Compassionate City initiative to participate. We want all Charter members to consider being a part of this informative project. Visit the Excellence Reporter website to see how dynamic past projects have been. You might also want to see Nicolae Tanase’s book What is the Meaning of Life? You’ll find interviews with leaders, thinkers, writers, laymen and people from all walks of life.
Would you be willing to contribute your thoughts to the Compassionate City Project? The process is very simple. Write down your insight on the following questions:
- What makes a compassionate city/community?
- How do you personally measure compassion?
- What do you do to contribute to creating a more compassionate community and world?
Email your responses back to Nicolae Tanase along with your consent. You may want to view the Privacy Policy of the Excellence Reporter and then simply write a statement that you are willing to have your photo and writing published on line. Include a high resolution jpeg or tiff (photo of you), a short bio, and the name (location) of your city/community, e.g. Austin, Texas, USA.
Your response will be published online at Excellence Reporter. There are plans to publish a book of the responses received in the future. The world needs your insight, vision, wit and help on “What makes a Compassionate City?”
Charter for Compassion and The Media Coalition for Peace and Compassion Collaborate on a New Media Series
The Media Coalition for Peace and Compassion (MCPC) is being activated in partnership with the Charter of Compassion International to further the Charter’s existing mission of fostering a more compassionate world. The objective is to create a supportive environment for communicators to explore positive solutions to negative media trends, which are directly affecting personal well-being and democratic freedoms around the world. Because of these trends, our civic narrative has become increasingly reactionary and counter-productive. Our dealings with one another reflect this undercurrent as civic dialogues on issues affecting our collective future are marked by division, fear, blame, and mistrust. Solution-oriented narratives are needed to build bridges and to help us envision the world we know in our hearts is possible.
The Media Coalition for Peace and Compassionaim to bring together a diverse group of media organizations, visionaries, practitioners, theorists, and community storytelling facilitators who have a vision for restorative narrative as an antidote for the complex tensions of our times. We want to hear from those working in the field – to learn about challenges as well as what is working. First and foremost, our goal is to build community providing a safe place to gather while forming a collective intention to open up cross-sector perspectives and collaboration. This group will form discussions and webinars as well as provide resources for individuals, communities and partner organizations. To participate contact . Learn more about the series.

There are many more books in our Bookstore. Check out the offerings: books by Karen Armstrong, the Dalai Lama, Paul Gilbert and others. There is a wonderful sign welcoming neigbors and a compassion square to display in your home.
If you are working on a Compassionate City, you'll want to check out what we have available for teams and community members and Charter for Compassion items (i.e., Charter sign, water bottles, tote bags, mugs, magnets and computer laptop skins.
Take a Walk with history by purchasing Deep Talk Walk app, or look through our Personal Care items. There is an interesting selection of films, CDs by award winning children's singer, Susan Salidor and a nice selection of Clothing and Accessories.
The Marketplace reflects books that our members are reading or selections from our Global Read offerings. Also, as we are coming close to having 2000 partners we wanted a way to feature the “wares” of our partners and to help the Charter earn a fair percentage from each item sold. Many of these partners are owners of companies or are artists, writers, filmmakers and individuals who offer services. The Charter wanted a way to promote their good works. We invite you to browse through our Marketplace. Think about using the Marketplace when you are considering giving gifts or if you want something special for yourself.
