The School of Inspired Leadership is a break through innovation in “Higher Education” that aims to build leaders with character, competence and enthusiasm. It was co-created by a team of thoughtful business leaders and companies that believe that ‘conscious’ businesses can contribute to making our world better. We spend more than 75% of our waking hours in organizations. If we create “community at work”, use the right means to make money and “learn to do more with less for more”, we take these values to our homes and neighborhoods.

Business schools therefore have an important role in shaping this way of thinking in their products so that over a period of time, the pipeline of leaders in organizations is staffed with people who think, relate and act in ways that make our world better.

Our Values

At SOIL, we put great emphasis on five core values that we call the pillars of “Inspired Leadership”.
We call these the A, B, C, D and E of our culture. These are:

A) ‘Awareness’ – comes from the practice of “mindfulness”. This is about learning to be fully present in whatever we are doing, feeling or thinking. By not having any regrets of the past or anxiety about the future, we bring back the child like curiosity to learn and be happy regardless of the state of the environment. This is taught through a regular practice of Yoga and meditation.
B) ‘Balance’ – comes from appreciating the true spirit of “Sustainability”. Our campus building is designed to be in balance with Mother Nature- natural light in all rooms, rain water harvesting, energy saving equipment etc. In addition, we teach courses on “Whole systems Thinking” to make the students aware of this dimension.
C) ‘Compassion’ – is about not only getting out of our own shoes to step into others’ shoes to feel their state of mind but also doing something to help those in need. This is done through the year -long “Social Innovation Program” in which student teams work one day in a week, with NGO’s to make a difference to society. We also partner the Chinmaya Organization of Rural Development and donate 10% of our profits each year to serve the poorest of the poor of India.
D) ‘Diversity’ – is about appreciating the uniqueness of each person and learning to leverage that for the sake of collective good. We use “Caliper”, a world renowned tool to appreciate the psychometric profile of every student and staff member and enable teams to use this knowledge to give off their best.
E) ‘Ethics’ – is about being fair to all stakeholders, using the right means to achieve results and “no deception”. We practice this in every process in SOIL and also teach students to explore this within themselves through a week long intense course conducted by theatre artists.

MISSION AND VALUES

With our 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio, average class size of 16, and proximity to San Francisco, we’re able to provide both the personal attention associated with smaller schools and with the academic resources and global opportunities associated with larger universities.

COMMUNITY

Dominican is known for being close-knit, friendly and supportive. With only 2,200 students, small class size, and our small-town, park-like campus, students make amazing friends and truly get to know their professors. They're involved, challenged and recognized, all while being supported, guided, and encouraged by dedicated faculty and friends. In addition, Dominican offers more than 50 student clubs and organizations.

REFLECTION

Here at Dominican, students don’t have to look far to find an opportunity for serenity and reflection. It’s everywhere. The University’s 80-acre campus with beautiful manicured gardens offers a calming influence, along with sun-drenched benches to relax upon.

SERVICE

At Dominican, students find themselves sharing the basics of good sportsmanship with lacrosse campers, teaming up with local museum curators to create traveling art exhibits, and mentoring low-income families in preparing their tax returns.

Last year alone, our students completed over 8,645 service-learning hours. It’s no wonder Dominican has once again been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll – the highest federal recognition for commitment to service-learning and community engagement.
